In the early years of diagnosis of Prader-Willi Syndrome, which occured in the 1950's, very little was known about its causes, or treatment. Much has been learned in the last fifty years. Now, infants can be receive a confirmed diagnosis within days of birth due to the higher chromosomal analysis that is available today. As a result, intervention and specialized care for the child and informational and educational training for the parent/caregiver can be implemented early in the child's life resulting in a much greater likelihood of reducing the impact of some of the common traits /behaviors triggered by PWS. One of the prime resources for information is to contact our national parent organization http://www.pwsausa.org/.
It is our intention to provide a list of Oklahoma physicians and other professionals who can be contacted by parents or other inquirers for additional information or services.
